Background Information
OneNote is an organizational tool for business professionals, and students alike. The program can be use similar to a three-ring binder, or Trapper Keeper. The program holds Notebooks, which in turn contains sections and pages.
Helpful Tips and Features in OneNote
Add a note anywhere on the page. Just click and type β itβs just like sitting in front of a notepad with a pen. If you choose to use OneNote on a tablet, use your stylus as a pen to write notes.
Page Templates:
- To create a new page, click on New Page. A new, blank page will appear in your notebook.
- There are more page types available in OneNote than blank pages. Click the New Page drop-down, and select a listed page option.
- Choose Page Templates to select more templates from Microsoft.com (must have internet connection for this). Options include templates for class notes, detailed meeting notes and agendas, and planners.
- Create a template from the current selected page. This is helpful when consistently using a custom page.
- Access this by clicking on New Page > Page Templates > Save Current Page as a Template (bottom of the template panel).
- Set your notebook page to view with notebook rule lines.
- View Tab > Page Setup section > Rule Line drop-down. Page color options are available in this section, as well.
Home Tab - Noteworthy Tools
- Email Page: The selected notebook page will open as the body of a new email in Outlook. Outlook is required for this function.
- Outlook Tasks: The selected notebook page will save as details of a new Outlook task. All Outlook Task functions are available for this notebook page β reminders, mark as complete, set as recurring task, etc.
- Find Tags: Tag pages now to easily search through Notebooks later.
Insert Tab Tools
Some of the Insert Tab tools work the same way as they do in other programs β such as inserting a picture or attachment. Here is a list of new or modified tools in OneNote.
- Screen Clipping: clip a webpage, and link back to the website.
- File Printout: easily open a linked file, and preview the file in OneNote.
- Record Audio: Record audio when using OneNote on a device with a microphone, such as a laptop, tablet, or phone.
- Record Video: Record video when using OneNote on a device with a microsphone, such as a laptop, tablet, or phone.
Print to OneNote From Office Programs
Send a copy of your document to OneNote: File > Print > Select OneNote as printer.
