Authenticator - Adding Microsoft Multi-factor Authentication to Android Devices

Background Information

Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, is a way to secure access to accounts using a secondary verification beyond a password.  For Mobile Devices in the Enterprises environment, the Microsoft MFA Application is recommended.  This Job Aide walks through the steps to set up Microsoft MFA on your Android device. 

Downloading and Adding Multi-Factor Authentication on Android Device

  1. From your mobile device, go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com
  2. At the Sign In screen enter your windows account+@casinoaz.com as your username, tap “Next”.
  3. In the password screen enter your windows password and tap “Sign In”.
  4. At the Home page, under “Security Info”, tap “UPDATE INFO”.
  5. On the “Security Info” page, tap “+ Add Sign-in method”.
  6. On the “Add a method” pop-up, select the “Choose a method” dropdown.
  7. From the options, select “Authenticator app”.
  8. On the “Add a method” pop up, when “Authenticator app” is added in the drop down, tap “Add”.
  9. The “Microsoft Authenticator” pop-up window will offer an option to download the app, tap “Download now”.
  10. The “Play Store” will automatically open, suggesting the Microsoft Authenticator App, tap “Install”.
  11. When the app has finished downloading, tap “Open”.
  12. In the Microsoft Authenticator app, tap “Accept”, and on the next screen tap “Continue”.
  13. On the sign in screen, tap “Add work or school account”.
  14. On the pop-up screen, tap “Sign In”
  15. On the Sign In pop-up screen enter your windows account and @casinoaz.com as your username, and tap “Next”. (Ex. ChristopherV@casinoaz.com)
  16. On the Password pop-up screen enter your windows password and tap “Sign In”.
  17. Go back to your web browser to the Microsoft sign in screen and tap “Next”.
  18. On the Microsoft Authenticator screen, tap “Pair your account to the app by clicking this link”.  This will bring the Authenticator app back up.
  19. On the Authenticator App, Tap the “casinoaz.com” user email displayed, which should include your windows username @casinoaz.com.  You will then be presented with your authentication home screen.
  20. Go back to your web browser to the Microsoft screen and tap “Next”.
  21. The Authenticator app will then pop up on your screen asking for an approval of this attempted Sign-In. Tap “Approve”.  You will then be presented with an approval notification that you can tap “Next” on the web application, and you will be presented with a “successfully registered” notification. You have completed the process and can now close out of the app and web browser.
