Body

Background Information

Windows 11 is the upgraded operating system for the Enterprises’ hardware, including computers and laptops. This guide will review the most prominent changes you will see when upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

The Start Menu

The Start Menu will undergo significant noticeable changes during the Windows 11 upgrade.

The three vertical columns that made up the Windows 10 Start Menu are now merging into interactive buttons, tiles, and menus for easy use and accessibility in the Windows 11 Start Menu.

The Search Bar

The Search Bar is located at the top of the Start Menu. Type the name of an application, setting, or document into the Search Bar to locate and select the searched item.

Applications Menu

The Applications Menu is no longer automatically pinned into the Start Menu. To access the full Applications Menu, select All from the Start Menu to open the Applications Menu. From there, scroll and select any applicable application. Select Back to return to main Start Menu.

Power Options

The Power Options are built into interactive menus for when you’d like to sign out, lock the screen, or restart your device.

Sign out of a device by selecting your full name at the bottom of the Start Menu beside the company logo. Select Sign out to fully sign out of the device.

Other power options can be found by selecting the Power icon at the bottom right side of the Start Menu. Select the Power icon before choosing an option.

Pinning Applications to the Start Menu

Applications can still be pinned to the Start Menu for easy access. All pinned applications will appear in the middle portion of the Start Menu.

To pin an application to the Start Menu:

  1. Select All in the upper right part of the Start Menu.
  2. Navigate to the desired application.
  3. Right click on the application.
  4. Select Pin to Start.

The Calendar

The Windows 11 calendar is upgraded from its Windows 10 counterpart.

Select the Calendar in the bottom right corner of the screen to open the full Calendar Menu.

Windows 11 not only has a Calendar Menu but also a Notifications Menu that appears at the top for easy accessibility.

NOTE: The full Calendar Menu can only be accessed from your main monitor. If your laptop or computer has an additional monitor connected, the full Calendar Menu can only be accessed from the main monitor.

The Software Center

Access the Software Center when you need to install an application. Open the Start Menu and search “Software Center” to open the Software Center.

The Windows 11 upgrade does not automatically install Active Directory. If you utilize this application, you will need to install Active Directory manually. To do so:

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. Search for Software Center and select the application.
  3. In the Search Bar, enter RSAT.
  4. Select RSAT (which is Active Directory).
  5. Select Install.
