Outlook - Clearing Autocomplete Cache

Background Information

The Autocomplete List, also know as the Autocomplete Cache, is generated automatically when you send email messages from Outlook. If you are getting bounce-back or undelieverable messages stating "The email address you entered couldn't be found" from a failed message delivery, you likely need to clear the Autocomplete Cache in Outlook. This Job Aide provides instruction on how to clear the Autocomplete Cache in Outlook.

Clearing the Autocomplete Cache

  1. Within Outlook, select the File tab in the Home ribbon.
  2. Select Options from the lower lefthand corner of the navigation pane.
  3. Within the Outlook Options panel, select Mail.
  4. Scroll down to the “Send Messages” section of the Mail options.
  5. Select “Empy Auto-Complete List.” Select “Yes” from the pop-up box, indicating you want to clear this cache.
  6. The processing of clearing the cache happens automatically. Select OK.
