Background Information
All programs in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) have the ability for users to insert hyperlinks. Inserting a hyperlink allows users to access an external website, jump to a specific location within an existing document, or create an email addressed to a specific recipient with pre-populated subject line.
Create a Simple Hyperlink
To create s simple link to a web page, follow these steps:
- Type the name of the web address (not necessary to type http://)
- Example: www.casinoaz.com
- Press the space bar, your link will automatically be created.
- Example: www.casinoaz.com
- (A link is created to the webpage http://www.casinoaz.com)

The Example in the attached pdf shows how to create a Hyperlink using existing text in a document.
- Select the text
- Click the Insert tab and click on the Links drop-down. Select Hyperlink. This will open the Hyperlink dialog box.
- Choose the link Type
- Link to a File or Web Page
- Link to an E-mail Address
After a link has been created, the text will become underlined. Text color will change to blue. When the link is clicked, the text will change to purple. Users can open this link by clicking the text.
Link to a File or Web Page
Select the Existing File or Web Page button from the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
Link to Files:
- Search for the file by clicking the drop-down arrow
- in the Look In field..
- Select the file from the browser window.
- Click OK
Link to Web Pages:
- Type or paste the web address (url) in the Address: field
- Click OK
Link to an Email Address
Create a Pre-Addressed E-mail:
- Select the E-mail Address button from the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
- Type the full e-mail address in the E-mail address field.
- The “mailto” will autofill when you begin typing the email address.
- If desired, type a default Subject line in the Subject field
- Click OK

Modifying an Existing Link
- Right-click the link and select Edit Hyperlink
- Make changes to the link as appropriate
- Click OK
Removing a Hyperlink
- Right-click the link and select Remove Hyperlink
