Background Information
Microsoft Office allows users to create visual diagrams using the SmartArt feature.
Popular SmartArt diagrams include:
- Process Diagram
- Cycle Diagram
- Hierarchy Diagram
Creating SmartArt
- Click the Insert Tab.
- In the Illustrations section, click SmartArt.
- In the Choose a SmartArt Graphic window, select a SmartArt Diagram template.
- Click OK.
Modify SmartArt Structure
- SmartArt Tools appear in the ribbon when a diagram is added to a document, or selected.
- Additional shapes can be added to a SmartArt diagram in the following ways.
- SmartArt tools > Design Tab > Create Graphic section > Add Shape drop-down.
- Click the handle on the left side of the diagram to open the Outline panel. Each bullet is associated with a shape in the diagram. Click Enter to add more shapes.
Modify SmartArt Styles
To Modify the SmartArt diagram, use the SmartArt Tools. The Design Tab holds structure and style functions that will affect the diagram as a whole. The Format Tab includes options to modify a shape within the diagram.
Most-used items in the SmartArt Tools include:

Use the Shape Styles group to choose different colors and styles for an individual shape within the SmartArt diagram.
Use the Size section to adjust the width or height of a diagram shape.

Use the Layouts group to choose a different layout for your SmartArt.
Click the desired Layout to change your entire SmartArt graphic.
Additional layouts can be seen by clicking the scroll bars on the right hand side of the Layouts group

Use the SmartArt Styles group to choose different colors and styles.
Click the Change Colors drop down arrow to view a palette of colors.
Click the desired Styles to change your SmartArt. Additional styles are available by clicking the scroll bars on the right hand side of the SmartArt Styles group
