Background Information

Saf-T-Log is a way to measure, store, download and pring temperature reports with a handheld thermocouple meter.  Employees will use this device to record the temperature of food items through out the day to keep food at the appropriate temperture meeting FDA standards.

Start Up

Using the handheld device to measure the temperature of food.

  1. Turn on the device by pushing the on/off button on the handheld device.
  2. Press both the up-arrow and down-arrow buttons at the same time to go get to the menu screen
  3. Use the up-arrow and down-arrow buttons to scroll through the menu screen
  4. Stop on “Change User”
  5. Scroll through until you find your name
  6. Use the REC Button to select your name
  7. Use the up-arrow and down-arrow buttons to scroll through the menu screen
  8. Stop on “Change Checklist”
  9. Scroll through to find your list name
  10. Use the REC Button to select your Check list
  11. Scroll through until you find “Exit Menu” then hit the REC button to exit

Prep for Recording Food Temperatures

Follow these steps to prepare your equipment to measure food temperatures.

  1. Use the up-arrow and down-arrow buttons to scroll until you find the item you are about to record.
  2. Wipe the probe with Thermo meter Probe Wipes before inserting in each food item.

Recording Food Temperatures

Follow these steps to record food temperature.

  1. Place the thermometer into the food item.
  2. The temperature should rise/fall at a quick rate, once the reading starts to slow down dropping .1 or .2 degrees at a time, you will be fine to record the temperature.
  3. When you decide to record, just keep the thermometer in the item and press the REC button.
  4. Once it is recorded Saf-T-Log will show “Recorded #1”
  5. Clean the thermometer and move onto the next item.

Downloading Recorded Temperatures Into the Computer

  1. Plug the USB cord into the SAF-T-LOG and then into the  computer
  2. A screen will pop up on its own and show you your recordings
  3. In the bottom, right hand corner, hit “Save”
    • The program will save this with date, time and user on its own
  4. You’re all finished! You can leave the device plugged to charge.
