Philips DMP8900 - Using the Recorder

Background Information

This document will walk you through the necessary steps to using the Philips DMP8900 recorder.

Recording

  1. Power on the recorder.
  2. Press the top button on the remote to begin recording audio.
    • While audio is recording, you can add index’s to the recording to mark certain moments or points in a meeting. To add an index, press the index button on the remote.
  3. Press the top button on the remote again to stop recording audio.

Setting Folder Path

The first time using the Philips Dictate application, it is imperative that you set a folder path to determine where recordings will be saved. This should only be done once, upon the first log in as it is a user setting not a device setting. To do so please follow these steps.

  1. Open the Dictate application.
  2. Right click the “Finished dictations”. dropdown, and click “Folder properties”.
  3. Click the gray folder next to “path”.
  4. Select the desired destination for where the recorded files will be saved.

Downloading and Previewing Audio

  1. Open the Dictate application.
  2. Power on the Recorder.
  3. Dock the Recorder on the Philips dock, with the Dictate application open
  4. Your recordings will automatically download, and the device download pop-up will display.
  5. On the left panel of the Dictate application screen, your recordings will be stored in the “Meeting” folder. Click the “Meeting” folder to bring up the recordings.
  6. All recordings in the folder will display on the middle display.
  7. To listen to any of the recordings, double click the file from this screen.
  8. The player popup will display, where you can play and preview the recording. On this display, there will be visible markup lines where indexes were added. You can close the player when you are done previewing.

Labeling and Updating Recording Status

  1. From the “Meeting” folder display, right click the recording file you would like to label, and click “Rename”.
  2. Type the name of what you would like the file to be identified as.
  3. Upon completion of transcription of the recorded meeting, you can then change the “dictation status” by right clicking the audio file, and selecting “Change dictation status”.
  4. Choose the applicable status you would like the recording to be labeled as and click “Ok”.
