Background Information
This Job Aide will review the steps for opening exported camera footage through Smart Viewer and reviewing this footage in VLC Media Player.
Exporting Footage Through Smart Viewer
- Open Smart Viewer.
- Login by entering credentials in the ID and PW fields.
- Once open, Smart Viewer will connect to your NVR/DVR device previously set up.
- NOTE: If you do not have any devices setup or the device needed is not listed, please go to the Hanwaha Vision support site for instructions on how to add devices:
- Once your NVR/DVR device(s) are loaded, select the correct device from the Device drop-down menu in the top left corner of the screen.
- In the top right corner of the screen, select the Search icon.
- Under the Date Search drop-down, select the date when the incident occurred.
- At the bottom of the screen, select the CD / Disc icon.
- When prompted with the message in the attached pdf, select Yes to proceed.
- On the following Backup screen, select the Camera and Time Frame needed.
- Set the export Path location to where you’d like the files saved.
- Set the File Format to AVI for the VLC Media application playback.
- Select Start to begin the video export. While the file is being exported, the completion percentage will be displayed in the Status section.
- Once completed, a pop-up window will appear, indicating if the backup was successful or not. If you choose to review footage immediately, select Open Folder to open the file’s storage location and proceed to the next section. Otherwise, select Close.
Reviewing Exported Footage in VLC Media Player
Once the file(s) have been exported successfully, use VLC Media Player to play back the footage. Follow these steps to review the footage:
- Navigate to folder where the file(s) are stored.
- Right click the file and hover your mouse over Open with. Then, select VLC Media Player.
- Select the Play icon to play the footage. Other applicable icons to review the footage are to the right of the Play icon.
Troubleshooting FAQs
Unable to login:
- Be sure that you are using the most up-to-date login info for the correct location.
Smart Viewer opens but does not connect:
- Check the connection icon next to the device drop down box. If disconnected click
- to reconnect.
- If it still doesn’t connect, check your network connection and be sure that you are
- connected to a CAZ Staff network and not Guest WiFI.
If you’re needed camera or NVR/ DVR device is not listed in the Search section:
- You’ll need to confirm which device you need and add it.
Files keep failing to export:
- Ensure you’re allowed to save files in the location listed in the “Path” option.
- File backup and Export is not allowed with the generic tech login. You must be
- logged in as an admin. If you do not have admin credentials, reach out to your supervisor
- or manager.
